Throwbacks for a Thursday

supplying some throwback gems from the depths of the library on the most grammatically fitting day of the week. Ranging from 2009 to the nineties these are some of the immortal songs that I’ll never stop listening to, especially the four tracks with Wayne from back in his golden days, but ‘Another Planet’ with Huey is included more for comedy than anything. Rubberband man is also another comedic song from the T.I. era before all of his music was about the lessons that he’s learned and that general genre of bullshit.

Actual Pretty Boy Swag

No, I’m not saying that Soulja Boy is a good rapper. No, I’m not saying that it makes sense that his lyrics are anywhere near comparable to those of actual rappers, nor am I saying that Soulja Boy should have been allowed to graduate 3rd grade, but regardless this freestyle that he did over a beat from Dre the Developer last January actually goes well with his lyrics and makes it sound like legitimate music. In general, Soulja Boy is still really bad at making music, but give this a listen anyway

All I Need Freestyle – Soulja Boy (Prod. by Dre the Developer)

The Grow Op

‘The Grow Op’ is a producer collab mixtape with work from Big Jerm and Treejay. My favorites were Mac’s intro to the mixtape, also called The Grow Op on top of solid work from Jerm, and the other is the third track on the mixtape, guest produced by Cookin’ Soul. If you can’t imagine when this mixtape came out then don’t listen to it.
(Cookin’ Soul = Bauce)

The Grow Op – Mac Miller

We Get High – Sir Michael Rocks

Couple of New Mashups

Got a couple of new mashups to share with you, including a White Panda masterpiece blending Big Sean’s Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay with Kaskade and Le Castle Vania. Sex Ray Vision’s ‘Surprise Greyhound’ mixes together 7 different artists including Swedish House Mafia, Busta Rhymes & Tiesto, The Wanted, Axwell & Ivan Gough, Dragonette and actually makes that fucking Glad You Came song that you can’t escape on the radio much more bearable.

Turn Marvin Gaye Down – The White Panda

Surprise Greyhound – Sex Ray Vision

Hood Dance – Ego

I Don’t Want to be Alone – DJ BAHLER

XV’s Yellow Brick Road

This post is overdue as XV’s Yellow Brick Road to SXSW is approaching a month old, but I felt it was necessary. According to XV this mixtape is something to keep his fans occupied until his next project which is still unrevealed (an album, perhaps?). XV is an AudioAlcohol favorite not only because of his music but the consistency with which he releases mixtapes and individual tracks compared to most other artists in his class. I chose three of my favorites to share, two of which with a feature for the chorus and the last one is sort of a bonus, as XV released his freestyle over Jai Paul’s ‘BTSTU’ last summer that was included in this mixtape, but it was a shortened version so I went ahead an included the complete version that wasn’t featured on the mixtape.

Squarian Anthem Feat. Sez Batters

Learn to Fly Feat. Betty Trouble

Bonus:

BITSTU (freestyle)

Tomorrow – Eddy B & Tim Gunter

Haven’t heard anything from this North Carolina vocal/producer duo since their Coldplay samples from their debut mixtape almost about a year ago. Eddy B drops some verses about his childhood woes and his anxieties in the principal’s office and what not over Tim Gunter’s piano chords to make some nice earcandy, lots of potential to look out for with this college duo.

Good Sense

Good Sense is Young Roddy’s latest mixtape that came out early in April. He and Nesby use the same beat as Kendrick Lamar’s Hii Power in ‘Trapologist’.

Trapologist (Feat. Nesby Philps)

Macadelic

Tight song from Mac Miller’s march mixtape Macadelic. Kind of a strange sounding hook, almost mesmerizing, but Weezy adds a solid verse to make what I considered to be by far the best track on this tape.

The Question (Feat. Lil Wayne) – Mac Miller

ASAP Rocky: LiveLoveA$AP

ASAP Rocky, Rakim Mayers hailing from Harlem, New York City, smashes some fucking sick clams casino beats on this mixtape. Looking very promising for future bangers.

ASAP Rocky: Bass [Prod. Clams Casino]

ASAP Rocky: Peso [Prod. ASAP Ty Beats]

Even More Cole

I know how much J Cole i’ve been posting as of late, but i figured this one was too good to not post, he goes ham over some elite production, enjoy

Visionz of Home – J. Cole
